Pentecost Weekend at Holy Trinity: A Good Kind of Tired!

A Good Kind of Tired!

Pentecost weekend (June 19-20) was a busy one for Holy Trinity in Yonkers, NY!

As well as commemorating the Descent of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost marked the parish’s Patronal Feast Day. And – it was Father’s Day!

Holy Trinity was honored with the presence of His Eminence, Archbishop Michael who served Great Vespers on Saturday evening with a full choir singing the responses. Following Vespers, everyone was treated to an excellent chicken parmesan dinner in Holy Trinity’s new social hall.

On Sunday, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was served, and once again, the full choir provided heartfelt responses under the direction of Choir Director, Gleb Ivanov. A traditional greeting to Archbishop Michael by Elena Paolercio, Parish Council President and 6-year old Church School student, Anastasia Statkevicus. Together, they offered the Archbishop a beautifully decorated bread and flowers.

In addition to Father Vlad Zablotskyy, rector of Holy Trinity, concelebrating with His Eminence were: Deacon Bohdan Chaikivskyi, Sundeacon Mark Federoff, Subdeacon Matthew Ortiz, as well as Subdeacon Christopher Nolan, Reader William Bolinsky, Altar Servers Luke Kusic, Moses Turner and John Federoff.

Archbishop Michael’s sermon provided much spiritual “food” for thought, as he reminded us that on Pentecost, we all need to reflect on how we will use the Holy Spirit that is within each of us for the glory of God and our own salvation.

Every Sunday at Holy Trinity, all the church school students eagerly line up with lighted candles to process in the Great Entrance. And Pentecost Sunday was no exception!

When the Liturgy and Kneeling Prayers ended, Archbishop Michael lead the clergy and parish downstairs to bless Holy Trinity’s newly completed social hall. The social hall includes a new kitchen, office space, and classroom as well as an ample dining and event area. The project was underway for approximately 2 years and was accomplished through generous donations and with few delays in the construction schedule - despite covid pandemic shutdowns!

By the time the Blessing was completed, everyone was anxious for the delicious dinner of sausage & peppers, ziti, salads and a beautifully-laden dessert table!

Although many are to be thanked for their contributions to the weekend’s festive meals, Matushka Jeanne Zablotskyy must be congratulated for her superior culinary, baking and coordination efforts that made breaking bread together as a parish so enjoyable. Thank you Matushka!

You know an event was a success when everyone returns home feeling that “good kind of tired”! Such was the feeling after Pentecost 2021 at Holy Trinity Yonkers!
